String Player’s Guide to the Orchestra

The String Player’s Guide to the Orchestra contains important selections from the standard string and and full orchestral repertoire, and includes a series of scales and studies which precede each excerpt. The scales orient the musician to the key by using the musical motives and bowing styles of the excerpt. The studies contain melodic, rhythmic, and bowing patterns that are invaluable for ensemble and individual progress. The excerpts themselves are chosen to highlight valuable and interesting musical selections for individual instruments and the entire string section.  Included are works by Beethoven, Mozart, Britten, Tchaikovsky, Brahms, Ravel, Dvorak, Schubert, and Mendelssohn (see photographs for complete contents).
