  1. Fun stuff

I’ve played just the bottom 3, on an old Ernst Heinrich Roth. For me they are brighter than you’d think, but lots of fun. I’d say you will be tuning a lot, even if they are more stable than other gut strings, unless you live in some area with really constant humidity and temps. Here it’s like a yo-yo (the toy, not the cellist), so you can find yourself off by a half step overnight or from one day to the next day. Aside from that, they are nice to play, again, probably brighter than you think, sort of in the middle of the road, volume wise, and very responsive to bowing. Have used maybe 5 weeks, still holding up.

Can't get D string on my instrument

    Carla S. (verified owner)

I bought a set of these strings, looking forward to hearing a mellow tone from gut-like strings. Three of the strings went on my instrument with no problem. The D string, however, is too thick to fit in my tailpiece. I guess if you have a tailpiece with all string holes the same size, these strings would be fine. But, my tailpiece string holes get smaller as you get to the higher/thinner strings. For 50 years, I have restring my viola and never had a problem until now. I returned the first string and got a second, but have the same problem. Guess I’ll have to get a new tailpiece or different strings. Grrrr. I guess tailpiece would be cheaper. Just a heads up to viola players.
