I purchased a set of orchestra prim violin strings 10 months ago and I didn’t use E strings; therefore, I can’t comment on how long these strings will last nor E strings.
1. the package is not air tight, strings came in a cardboard package and individual envelope pocket. If they were in tight sealed plastic envelope the shelf life would have been longer — in my case, A string was a bit rusty 🙁
2. the strings look like the claw type magnetic pick up tool, except it’s a lot thinner. A string looks thinner than D and G. I still put them on except E
3. Sound:
G – I really like how the G sounds on my violin. Much louder than my old helicore strings. Darker, warmer, and more powerful, too.
D – Loud, and matches with G but not as warm.
A is weak compared to G and D, especially G.
I have used dominant medium gauge for many years, I think I like these strings better than dominant.
Suggestions: Get G and D, and an A strings from other brand to match or get medium gauge G and D and orchestra A, but I don’t know how medium gauge G and D would sound.
