Thomastik-Infeld’s Dominant Pro is a new and improved version of the original classic. Designed with the modern professional in mind, they provide an expanded range of color and brilliance, while enhancing the warmth and radiance of the original Dominant strings. Whether they are played loudly or quietly, the immediate reaction and balance of tonal qualities can be heard right away. After a short break in time, hints of a rounder, fuller sound begin to emerge.
What’s the Difference?
The Silver D offers a more refined bow noise, brilliance, and pronounced sound color with excellent modulation capacity. Compared to conventional Silver D strings, this novel silver alloy is more responsive to the bow and does an excellent job of suppressing wolf tones.
The Aluminum D is the preferred choice if your instrument requires more brilliance and projection capacity. Aluminum wound strings are even more responsive to the bow compared to Silver. This Aluminum wound D has a larger diameter than the Silver D, which may be preferable for some players.

I think that the string itself is o.k., but not a large change from Dominants. A more complex tone picture is needed. I decided against a full set of Dominant Pros for my violin.

This is first time for us to buy Dominant Pro and my son feel like too much different than Dominant set without E string we bought before . He wants to know if he can switch it to Thomstik Dominant Set without E string please.

At first I thought they were too bright, being used to a darker tone. But the more I played, the more I liked, particularly in ensemble. I wish there was a wound E string option; I may install a non whistling E I have and see if it sounds better

Terrific strings, with a silver D…except for the E. Two different variations of the E were shrill and tough on the fingers. The first set lasted longer than my “usual” Dominants. They have a thicker sound bringing out more core, and they are very responsive. Takes a while to play in the G. But first rate, except for…
