Description
The Warchal Amber string set has been developed with the aim of achieving the sound qualities of the best gut strings without any tuning instabilities. The set features W-CoreĀ®, a completely new core material developed by the Warchal Research; Development team. The sound is rich and warm, but with depth and texture.
The Amber E string is based on Warchal’s newest research. The composition of the core increases the longitudinal elasticity of the string, which results in a significant sound improvement. The Amber E string, while plain steel, offers a warmer sound and no whistling.
Tone: Warm and complex
Playability: Highly responsive
Stability: Increased stability due to new core material
Standard Warchal Amber set composition:
E string: Steel
A string: Hydronalium over synthetic
D string: Hydronalim-Silver over synthetic
G string: Silver over synthetic
Also available:
D string: Pure silver over synthetic

This is a wonderful string, with one catch. It produced a warmer sound on my violin than any other E I have used, and the E blends much better with my other strings. However, I use a Hill style tuner for loop end E’s, and my first few Warchals broke unexpectedly. There is a solution. Wittner makes plastic protectors that slide over the prongs of Hill tuners. A luthier showed me how to affix one to the tuner with a dot of Super Glue. Problem solved with an expenditure of $5.

The tone was harsh for a string that is supposed to be warm. The whistling disappeared but it’s a loud string. I went back to my old version Pirasto gold label E with Visions.

Good sound, but the loop end version breaks very easily at the loop, making it a very expensive string, so I changed to ball end, but still use my hill style E adjustor

The string is famous for being whistle-proof, which is why I bought it, on my luthier friend’s recommendation, when the Peter Infeld E-string whistled terribly on my instrument. I’m happy to confirm that the rumors are true.
The tone is VERY bright. Matching the sound to the other strings is likely to require slight adjustments to your technique, but it’s a small price to pay if the alternative is worrying about a whistle every time you play.
